Many of my followers know this face based purely on the fact that I take advantage of it’s beauty. What you might not know about her though, is that this girl wears a hearing aid. Essy was born deaf, and she’s had to wear a hearing aid her whole life. Now for those of you who don’t realize, hearing aids are brutally expensive; We’re talking upwards of 7,000 dollars. And for someone who is in college, that can be little overwhelming. It’s not fair that insurance companies will only pay a minimum amount to cover the cost, when there was absolutely nothing she could to do prevent this happening to her in the first place.
Technology is amazing these days, and recently Cochlear Implants has released a smaller, lighter, waterproof hearing aid. Essy’s current hearing aid is large, and it makes her extremely self conscious to the point that she won’t wear her hair up, even if it’s 90 degree weather. The one she currently has is NOT waterproof in the slightest, and of course that makes swimming difficult for her.
However, the most important factor here is that with this new hearing aid, her quality of hearing will go up 50%. Right now, if you and I were to hear a bird chirping, we would automatically know that it’s a bird. Essy’s hearing capabilities stops her from being able to identify a simple sound such as a chirp. But with the Nucleus 5, she’ll be able to comprehend what she’s hearing. And the little things we take for granted will suddenly mean the world to her.
So, with her permission I’ve designed a paypal account in Essy’s name. We’re not talking about much here, any little thing helps.
She’s an amazing person, inside and out. Not to mention, incredibly smart. She’s a A student and made the Deans List this past semester. I know it would mean the world to her, and it would mean so much to me as well. I’ve been friends with this girl for almost 10 years now and I want to see her living her life to fullest, and not weighed down by something she has no control over.
